Liquidations & long/short FAQ

Where does the liquidation data come from?

This is the public Binance USDT perpetual futures forced-liquidation stream. Binance provides the last liquidation snapshot per symbol within each 1-second window. Only amounts received while this page is connected are added up. They are not whole-market or 24-hour totals. Refreshing resets the counters.

How are long and short liquidations distinguished?

A forced sell order closes a long position and is shown as a long liquidation. A forced buy order closes a short position and is shown as a short liquidation.

What does the long/short ratio mean?

It compares Binance futures accounts holding long positions with those holding short positions. It counts accounts, not position value, so it may not reflect the positioning of large traders.

What happens when the funding rate is positive?

When the rate is positive, long positions pay funding to short positions. Funding is commonly settled every 8 hours and tends to rise when the market is more heavily positioned long.
